Successful Dubai Tech Day Staged

Following the success of last year’s tech day in Dubai, Flowline Specialists DMCC has again joined forces with Motive Offshore FZC to stage a similar event for 2019.

Held on Tuesday, 26 February, the event welcomed around 100 people who were keen to discover more about the capabilities of a range of complementary equipment that can be used in the oil and gas and subsea industries.

To allow more equipment to be displayed, this year’s tech day took place at one of Dubai’s quirky Last Exit food parks. The large Jebel Ali venue, which features a Mad Max film theme, provided more space for equipment demonstrations to take place in, while its range of themed food trucks ensured attendees had a wide choice of food to enjoy.

Among the range of equipment showcased by Flowline Specialists were one of its bow cable engines and a subsea turntable and pallet. One of the company’s standalone diesel hydraulic power units was also on hand to drive some of the equipment displays.

Flowline Specialists designs, engineers and manufacturers a wide range of cable and pipe handling and deployment equipment for use onshore and offshore in the oil and gas, subsea and renewable energy industries. All of the firm’s equipment boasts a modular design, allowing for rapid deployment around the world.

Joining Flowline Specialists DMCC and Motive Offshore FZC at the tech day were a number of partner companies. Cutting Underwater Technologies (CUT), Euroload, Eztek, MSA The Safety Company and Trelleborg Group were all on hand to demonstrate a range of products and services, which broadened the appeal for visitors. Displays from these firms included pipe cutting using a diamond wire cutting system, a hazardous area talkback system and a virtual reality crane boom walk that highlighted the importance of fall protection products.

Group operations manager Graeme Chalmers, who leads Flowline Specialists’ Middle East operations and helped organise the day, said: “Once again, the tech day proved successful. We welcomed a good number of visitors, who all showed a real interest in the products on display and their potential capabilities. The Last Exit venue, with its film theme and different food trucks, provided an unusual backdrop which made the day stand out from the norm.”
